Ode To Dancehall Queens is a performance which samples the Butterfly dance, translocating it from the dancehall arena to the floor of a gallery space. The dance move, which has been borrowed and abstracted from Jamaican Dancehall culture is explored as an isolated gesture through ritualistic repetition. As it is performed, the gesture becomes multidimensional, depicting not only a technique of the body, but also a technique for making bilateral symmetrical prints that mirror the biological structure of butterfly wings.
